When is it better to use LED modules rather than LED strips?
LED modules are the "workhorses" for illuminated signage—they are robust, feature lenses for better light diffusion, and mount exceptionally well inside light boxes or channel letters. LED strips, on the other hand, are a more elegant solution for interiors, furniture backlighting, or long light lines where you need smooth and discrete illumination.
How do I figure out what power supply (transformer) size I need?
It is simple math with a small trick. Add up the total wattage of all modules or strips and add at least a 20% safety margin to the result. This margin is crucial—it prevents the power supply from overheating, keeps it running in an optimal range, and significantly extends its lifespan.
Can I use LED technology outdoors where it rains?
Certainly, but you need to check the Ingress Protection (IP) rating. For outdoor signage and moisture-prone areas, choose components rated IP65 or higher (ideally IP67). Such modules and power supplies are completely potted, ensuring dust and heavy rain won't harm them.
How do I achieve uniform, spot-free illumination for my sign?
The secret lies in the depth of the box and the spacing of the LEDs. Modern LED modules feature wide-angle lenses that scatter light sideways. If the box is deep enough (approx. 8–12 cm), the light blends nicely, and on the surface, you will see only a seamless, glowing area without visible "hot spots."
Can light intensity be controlled so the sign doesn't blind people at night?
Yes, dimmers and controllers are used for this purpose. You can manually adjust the intensity or use smart sensors that automatically reduce brightness as soon as it gets dark outside. This saves energy and makes your sign look much more professional and pleasant to the eyes of passersby.
