Constant-current power supplies are used for LED modules, LED strips, and LED lighting systems. These supplies deliver a constant current regardless of the voltage required to achieve it.

In practice, these supplies are used for specialized LED applications, such as illuminated signage or high-efficiency LED strips. The LEDs are connected in a series chain, ensuring that the same nominal current flows through all of them. The number of LEDs in the chain must be selected so that the sum of their forward voltages at the given current falls within the power supply's regulation range. These power supplies are always specified for a particular application. Please do not hesitate to contact us at export@dencop.cz for assistance in selecting the right power supply.

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between indoor and outdoor LED power supplies?
Indoor power supplies (often in a perforated metal casing) are designed for dry areas such as ceilings or switchboards and are not waterproof. Outdoor and dust-tight power supplies (in a potted plastic or aluminum housing, usually IP67 rated) are fully protected against moisture, rain, and dust, meaning they can safely withstand demanding outdoor conditions on facades or poles.

What happens if you overload an LED power supply?
If you connect more LED strips or modules to a power supply than its maximum rated capacity, the power supply will constantly run at 100% of its capabilities. This leads to overheating, whining noises, a drastic reduction in lifespan, and in worst-case scenarios, complete burnout. Therefore, we always strongly recommend keeping at least a 20% power reserve.

Do I need a special dimmable power supply for LED strips?
It depends on how you want to handle dimming. If you are using traditional 230V wall dimmers before the power supply, you must purchase a dimmable power supply (e.g., TRIAC, 1–10V, or DALI). However, if you plan to control light intensity after the power supply using a low-voltage controller (e.g., a remote for LED strips), a standard non-dimmable stabilized power supply is completely sufficient.

What is the difference between slim and classic industrial power supplies?
The main difference lies in dimensions and design. Slim power supplies feature a much narrower profile, which is invaluable wherever you are fighting for every centimeter of space—typically when installing into narrow light boxes, furniture niches, or drop ceilings. Classic industrial power supplies are wider, more robust, and more frequently used in larger advertising distribution boxes where space is plentiful.
