DC power supplies are used for LED modules, LED strips and high-power LEDs with the so-called POWER LED (with a current above 300mA). The source types deliver a constant current regardless of what voltage they have to produce.

In practice, these supplies are used for special LED applications in light advertising or LEDs with the highest efficiency. LEDs are connected serially in series to the chain. All the LEDs then flow through the same common nominal current. The number of LEDs in the chain must be selected such that the sum of the voltage in the permeable direction of the diodes at a given current is within the control range of the current source. Current supplies are always calculated for a particular application. Please contact us at shop@dencop.cz for the right choice of power source.

The installation manual for MEAN WELL power supplies, including the basic installation points, the maximum number of LEDs connected to the circuit breakers and other warnings, can be found HERE.

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

Which power supply should I choose for an LED strip – 12 V or 24 V?
Always match the voltage specified for your particular LED strip or module. 24 V systems are more advantageous for longer runs because they feature lower current and less voltage drop. The voltage of the power supply and the load must always match.

How much power output do I need from the power supply?
Add up the power consumption of all connected LED strips or modules and add a safety reserve of roughly 20%. This ensures the power supply will not run constantly at maximum capacity, significantly extending its lifespan. We are happy to help you with the calculation.

What does the IP protection rating mean for a power supply?
The IP rating determines resistance against dust and moisture – IP20 is sufficient for dry interiors, while IP65 or higher should be chosen for damp areas or outdoors. The correct rating is crucial for the safety and longevity of the installation. We offer both variants in our assortment.

Can these power supplies also be used for dimming LEDs?
Yes, with a suitable dimmer or control unit, voltage power supplies can also be used in dimmable installations. The key is to choose mutually compatible components. We will gladly advise you on the entire setup.
